Keywords:
Roman Empire, History, Archaeology, Slovenia, Western Balkans, Roman period, Late Antiquity, Early Middle AgesSynopsis
The volume is dedicated to the memory of Jaroslav Šašel, a distinguished scholar of Antiquity. Marking the centenary of his birth, it commemorates Šašel’s extensive research work and, through new insights, broadens our understanding of the role of the Eastern Alpine region and the Balkans in the history of the Roman Empire. It brings together seventeen contributions by twenty authors from various backgrounds, reflecting both the geographical breadth and thematic diversity characteristic of Šašel’s scholarly legacy. The contributions in the first part address the beginnings of the Roman period and the Principate, while the second part offers new perspectives on the Late Roman period, Late Antiquity, and the transition to the Early Middle Ages.
