Word order in Slovene
Keywords:
word order, thematic-structural order, functional sentence perspective, context, communicative elements and positionsSynopsis
The monograph aims to present word order as a fundamental syntactic phenomenon in the Slovene language. Since Slovene word order is not closely connected to or necessarily directly dependent on other syntactic or grammatical relationships, it tends to be insufficiently recognized in actual language use. As a result, it often remains unnoticed in everyday usage. Consequently, its importance in linguistic analysis is frequently underestimated and insufficiently addressed. Slovene word order is based on the division of the sentence according to the principles of topicality and focus, and is thus governed by thematic structure or functional sentence perspective, meaning it is shaped by contextual relevance and the stylistic or functional demands of individual utterances or the genre-stylistic needs of specific messages.
